Alcaraz became the youngest player to reach the top ten of the ATP

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, 18, has finished in the top 10 of the world rankings for the first time since 2005 and is the youngest player to do so, The Guardian reports.

Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam Open title on April 24 in Barcelona, Spain. In the final of the ATP-500 tournament, he beat compatriot Pablo Carreño-Busta 6-3, 6-2. Yesterday, April 25, Alcaraz moved up to ninth place in the rankings.

On April 25, 2005 the youngest player to break into the top 10 of the ATP rankings was Rafael Nadal, who, like Alcaraz, was 18 at the time. The youngest player to reach the top 10 is Aaron Krickstein, who was 17 years and 11 days old in August 1984.
