Ashley Barty on her decision to end her career
Former world number one and three-time Grand Slam champion Ashley Barty of Australia has no regrets about her decision to quit. Recall that Barty, 26, announced her retirement at the end of March, shortly before winning the Australian Open in January.
“I’m so happy, because I don’t have to make any reservations. I still feel confident that I made the right decision. I’ve spent a ton of time with my beautiful family, with my nephews, and believe me, you couldn’t take away my smile in recent weeks. It’s amazing,” Barty said.
Barty became the second tennis player in history to finish her career as the current world number one, after the Belgian Justine Henin.
