Dirk Hordorf: Strange that ITF had no reaction to Wimbledon decision
Vice-President of German Tennis Federation Dirk Hordorf spoke on the decision of British LTA not to allow the Russians and Belarusians to participate in Wimbledon-2022 and other tournaments under its aegis.
“It is extremely frustrating that tennis does not speak with a unified voice. A few weeks ago, Wimbledon along with ATP, WTA, ITF, other Grand Slam tournaments issued a statement saying how the problem would be solved. Everyone involved agreed, and now Wimbledon has decided things their own way.”
They had to think about the consequences. It would be unfair if some players could score world ranking points and others could not.
The only question is whether people who have nothing to do with it, who, like Rublev, even condemn the war, should be punished. Yes, you can have different points of view, and I accept any. But I don’t think it’s good for tennis when everyone decides separately, on the contrary, tennis should unite.
“It’s strange that the ITF has no reaction to the Wimbledon decision. They should have seen it coming,” Hordorff said.
