Cheteshwar Pujara, a middle-order batsman for India, believes it will be a historic victory if they can defeat a revitalised England cricket team in the fifth and final Test, which will begin on July 7 at Southampton.

The No. 3 Indian batsman, who has spent the previous two months or so in England scoring many runs for the County side Sussex, predicts that the visiting team would try to repeat all they achieved in order to take a commanding 2-1 lead in the Pataudi Trophy series.

In an interview, Cheteshwar Pujara stated on the official Indian Cricket Board website:

“I believe that having a strong group of players is the most crucial factor. We have excellent quick bowlers. Therefore, based on how the team performed in the previous four Test matches held here, I’m sure the players are keen to repeat their performance. If we can win this particular Test match and the series on English soil, I believe it will be one of India’s greatest triumphs.

Even though they were outplayed by a determined England team in the third Test, India secured decisive victories in the second and fourth Tests to grab a 2-1 series lead.

It is unusual for an Indian team travelling to England to be in a position where they can win a series, and if they can defeat an English team led by captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, they will be making history by winning the country’s first away series since 2007.
