Kafelnikov on Wimbledon champion Rybakina’s change of citizenship

The vice-president of the Russian Tennis Federation and former world number one Evgeny Kafelnikov commented on Yelena Rybakina’s success at Wimbledon 2022.

“Money rules the world. When someone has unlimited opportunity to spend it, they don’t pay attention to expenses. Here, Kazakhstan is in a win-win situation. We grow and provide. And they only have to go to the market and buy them. Good or bad, it’s hard for me to say. It’s the same as with hockey players. We produce, and then they go to the NHL. Because they are better there,” Kafelnikov said in a conversation with SE columnist Igor Rabiner.

It should be noted that Rybakina was born in Moscow, but four years ago she changed her sport citizenship.
