KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav have been ruled out of the home T20I series against South Africa; Pant will take charge: In a major setback for India ahead of the five-match T20I series against South Africa, stand-in skipper KL Rahul and chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav have both acquired injuries and have been ruled out of the home series. The events were verified by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday.
Kuldeep Yadav suffered a blow to his right hand while batting in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, while KL Rahul, who was handed command of team India in Rohit Sharma’s absence, had a right groin injury.
Both of the above-mentioned injured players will be rehabilitated at the National Cricket Academy. The medical team will determine the severity of the injuries and the next steps in therapy.
Meanwhile, the BCCI announced that no replacements for the two injured players had been contacted. Due to the absence of KL Rahul, youthful opener Ruturaj Gaikwad will be given the opportunity to start the innings with southpaw Ishan Kishan.
South Africa, captained by Temba Bavuma, will play India in the first T20I tomorrow at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. After that, the two teams will go to Cuttack for the second T20I, then to Vishakhapatnam and Rajkot. Bangaluru’s M.Chinnaswamy Stadium will host the fifth and final T20I.
