Mane is tight with Salah at Liverpool

Ahead of the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid, the German press decided to add fuel to the heated rumors about Mane’s desire to leave the Merseyside club in the upcoming summer transfer window. Barcelona, Bayern and PSG have been named among the transfer candidates. The African’s contract with the Reds runs until the summer of 2023.

Sky Sport Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg claims that Sadio is open to the possibility that he could move to Bayern this summer. Negotiations between the sides are reportedly already underway, and there has been noticeable progress. The Munich club and the player’s side may come to a final decision by mid-June. Plettenberg noted that Bavaria head coach Julian Nagelsmann and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic are pushing for Mane’s transfer. The transfer value of Sadio is estimated at 50 million euros.

Some German websites have linked Bayern’s desire to sign Mane with the potential departure of Lewandowski, but Fabrizio Romano has clarified that Munich’s interest in Sadio is due to the uncertainty surrounding Serge Gnabry. The club could not agree on a new contract with the German and is therefore looking for a full replacement.

A few days before Plettenberg, Bild journalist Christian Falk appeared with his insider and said that PSG would be the favorite in the fight for the transfer of Manet, if he does decide to leave. The Parisian club are seriously interested in Mane and his salary. That is why the Senegalese doubts the validity of extending the contract with Liverpool.

Taking into account the rumors that have emerged, the question arises clearly: why does Mane need PSG or Bayern? For sporting reasons, both hegemons of their countries are not equal to Liverpool, and they can only lure Sadio with money, but there are other hypothetical reasons.

New horizons

Mane plays for the Merseyside team since 2016, in 8 years he won with the club the APL gold, the FA Cup, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the English League Cup and the Club World Cup, that is, all the major trophies of Europe and the world. Perhaps Sadio wants to add to his trophy shelf with awards from other championships, and PSG and Bayern are ideal candidates for a transfer in this case, but, of course, with its reservations in the form of prestige and importance of potential cups due to the lack of proper competition.

A move to Real Madrid or Barcelona would have looked much nicer, and these clubs have also been repeatedly linked with interest in Mane. In early May, Mundo Deportivo reported that the option with Barcelona interested Sadio the most. The Catalan club understands that Mane is most attracted to the Spanish league, as the Senegalese’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or could grow there. It was noted, however, that Mane is open to a move to Barça. In his opinion, playing for the Blaugrana would give more weight to his team and individual achievements. However, the unstable performances of the Blues and the difficult financial situation of the club clearly make adjustments in favor of the choice of Barça.

Rivalry with Salah

The strained relationship between Mane and Mohamed has been written about for years, but for a long time it remained at the level of gossip and speculation, until the 2019/2020 season when a clear-cut moment occurred in August’s APL match against Burnley when Salah did not pass to Mane when the pass was the only option for a goal, an episode that provoked an explosive reaction from Sadio. And as he left the pitch, he shouted at Klopp and waved his arms. Later, the players were asked for an explanation, and Mane stated that there were misunderstandings, but they were quickly resolved.

Then, in December 2021, in the game with Crystal Palace, Klopp replaced the Senegalese in the 57th minute which, of course, the player did not like. On top of that, it was Salah who was sent on instead. The cameras captured Mane’s undisguised dissatisfaction with this decision.

In addition, more than once over the past few seasons there were moments when Sadio had opportunities to fall down in someone’s penalty box and get a 100% penalty, but still broke through to the goal through kicks on the legs. Why. Salah is a regular Merseyside penalty taker.

Also worth considering is the rivalry between the Senegalese and the Egyptian in international matches. The players’ teams have clashed three times recently in crucial matches – in the African Cup final and qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. In the game for Africa’s top trophy, Mane had the opportunity to put his team ahead as early as the 5th minute, scoring from the 11-meter spot. Sadio Salah gave his advice to the Egyptian goalkeeper before the shot was taken, with Mane indicating at the same moment that he was going to shoot to the right corner. The Senegalese did not convert it, and rumors of tension between the players increased.
