Proteas miss a chance to win the T20I series

Rain forced Sunday’s fifth and final Twenty20 International between South Africa and India to be called off, tying the series at 2-2. The outcome was rather disappointing for the visitors since they anticipated to completely dominate the Indians, who played nearly a second-string team because numerous members of the first team were out of the series.

The first two T20Is of the series were easily won by the visitors, who got off to a terrific start

However, despite a valiant effort by the hosts in the following two games, they were the second-best team. Both teams have a lot of positives and some difficulties to work out after the last and series-deciding T20I in Bengaluru was called off after less than four overs.

Batter:

Temba Bavuma : 5/10

Temba Bavuma, the Proteas captain, had a dismal series against the Men in Blue, scoring only 61 runs in his four at-bats. Even though he gave the visitors the consistency they needed in the second T20I, he performed horribly for the majority of the series. Definitely a series the South African captain will never forget.

3/10 for Quinton de Kock

Much was anticipated of the left-handed hitter Quinton de Kock in this series following his stellar IPL season with the Lucknow Super Giants. But because he was also forced to miss the second and third games of the series owing to injuries, he only managed to score 36 runs from the two games he appeared in.

5/10 for Dwaine Pretorius

Another mediocre series outing by a South African hitter. Dwaine Pretorius was given the opportunity to bat at No. 3 for the Proteas in the series in Aiden Markram’s absence, and his 29 runs off 13 balls were crucial to South Africa’s victory in the opening match of the series. With scores of 4, 20, and 0 in subsequent games, he was unable to have an influence on the series.

7/10 for Rassie van der Dussen

Rassie had a fantastic 131-run partnership with David Miller in the first game, when he played an unbroken innings of 75 runs. Rassie was the man who started South Africa’s record victory against India in the first T20I.

Bowlers

5/10 for Wayne Parnell

Wayne Parnell returned to the international setup after a long absence, but his bowling talents fell short of expectations. He only took down two wickets in the three games in which he took part, although he did score 22 runs in the third game of the series.

Keshav Maharaj: 3 out of 10

Keshav Maharaj had a disastrous series in which he only managed to take four wickets while leaking a lot of runs.He must improve else he risks losing his spot in the T20I lineup to rising talent Bjorn Fortuin.

2/10 for Tabraiz Shamsi

Another costly bowler who didn’t take many wickets in the series was Tabraiz Shamsi. He was benched for the crucial final T20I due to his series-high performance.
