Russian tennis players suspended from Wimbledon!
Russians and Belarusians may find themselves superfluous at the most prestigious tennis tournament. We gather all the details online.
Today, Western media reported that the British authorities and the organizers of “Wimbledon” are preparing a decision to exclude tennis players from Russia and Belarus from this major tournament on grass.
“Wimbledon” will be held from June 27 to July 10. Initially, the organizers were going to make a decision on the participation of our players in Wimbledon in mid-May, when the entry lists are submitted. However, it seems that the decision will be announced ahead of time.
According to the authoritative New York Times sources, it might not be in favor of Daniil Medvedev, Arina Sobolenko, Victoria Azarenka, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Andrei Rublev, Karen Khachanov, Daria Kasatkina, Veronika Kudermetova, Aslan Karatsev, Alexandra Sasnovich and other leading tennis players of the world.
In April, it was reported that the British authorities would allow the tennis players if they received some kind of guarantee from each of them that they were not financially supported by Russia and did not support the military special operation. According to the NYT, such a measure was rejected so as not to put the athletes’ families at risk. A full suspension is expected to be the new solution. Keep an eye on the situation.
